In short
- A one-off reel from a freelancer or small studio costs about £150-500 in the UK and $200-1,500 in the US, before VAT or sales tax.
- UGC creators charge from about $75 to $1,000 per video, and using the video in paid ads usually costs extra: 20-100% more, or a monthly fee.
- Finished AI video ads cost about $150-350 from a freelancer and $400-900 from an agency.
- DIY tools cost $15-50 a month, but most of the cost of a good AI reel is checking and fixing what the AI got wrong.
Short answer
Typical 2026 prices, excluding VAT and sales tax:
| Option | Price per video | What you get | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Edit of your own footage | $25-500 per video (US) / £20-80 per hour (UK) | cuts, captions, music | you already film on your phone |
| UGC creator | about $75-1,000 | a person recommending your product to camera | online shops, apps, beauty |
| Videographer or small studio | £150-500 (UK), $200-1,500 (US) | script, shoot, edit | your place and team are the attraction |
| AI video from a freelancer or agency | $150-350 freelancer, $400-900 agency | script, AI visuals, voice-over | products, mood, scenes hard to film |
| Doing it yourself | $15-50 a month in tools | the tools, you do the rest | you have time and like editing |
The same “reel” can cost $25 or $3,000. The difference comes from who writes the script, who films, and how many rounds of changes are included.
Filmed reels: the shoot day is most of the price
Videographers rarely film a single reel. They come for half a day or a day and shoot material for several videos at once:
- UK: a basic reel from a freelancer or small studio costs about £150-500. Videographer day rates are £600-2,000, and London is 15-25% above the rest of the country. Directory averages for London show £300-1,500 for a package of 3-5 edited clips.
- US: a single social video from a freelance videographer costs about $200-1,500, and 30-60% more in New York or Los Angeles. Agencies quote $500-3,000 and more.
- EU: published prices are rare. A Dutch agency lists €500-2,500 for a 15-60 second social video.
A filmed reel has one advantage AI cannot match: it shows your real place, your people and your product. If customers come to you for the atmosphere or for a person, film it.
UGC creators: cheap, but check the usage rights
UGC means videos where an ordinary person recommends a product to a phone camera, like a review. Independent creators charge a median of about $175 per video. New creators charge $75-300 and experienced ones $300-1,000. Platforms such as Billo or Trend.io start at around $50-100 per video.
Check what you are buying. Posting the video on your own profile is usually included, but using it in paid ads often costs extra: around €200-500 per video for 30 days, or 20-100% on top of the fee. A video you cannot run as an ad is worth much less.
AI videos: how much work they really take
Freelancers selling finished AI video ads charge about $150-350 per ad, agencies about $400-900. Monthly retainers start at about $1,500 for 15 videos.
My service page has two AI reels I made in October 2026 for fictional brands: a florist and a pottery studio, each in English and Polish. I counted the work:
- Script: five rounds of changes until two independent AI models rated each script at least 8 out of 10. The first drafts scored 6-7.
- Visuals: 34 video clips and about 70 still-frame variants, of which 24 shots made it into the two videos. Roughly one clip in three was rejected or trimmed.
- Voice, music, edit: AI voice-over, AI music with a commercial licence, captions timed to the voice, loudness set for social platforms.
- Checking: every video checked at four frames per second.
The tools cost less than I expected. Google AI Pro (Flow, with Veo) is $19.99 a month and SuperGrok (Grok Imagine) is $30, so about $50 a month covered all the video work. The other tools were free or ran locally on my computer. As with AI chatbots, you mostly pay for the work and corrections, and very little for the AI itself.
AI mistakes that are easy to miss
Catching errors took the most time. A viewer spots them in a second, but a creator can miss them when looking at single frames:
- A person switches sides in the frame. In one shot the florist stood on the left, in the next on the right, and the viewer loses track of who is where.
- People pass through objects. A man with an umbrella walked straight through the shop’s closed door.
- Strange gestures. The customer reached towards the florist’s face, which no prompt asked for.
- Details that do not match. The clock showed 8:00 while the voice said 7:58. The mug was glazed only halfway in one shot and fully in the next. The customer wore a different coat in one close-up.
- Physics and common sense. In the first version, flames burst out of the pottery kiln, which no potter would accept.
I fixed all of them before publishing. The model generates a clip in a minute, but checking and fixing the result takes hours, and that is why a good AI reel does not cost $20.
What makes a reel work
Whatever the production method:
- The first seconds. Meta and Nielsen found that up to 47% of a video campaign’s value comes in the first 3 seconds. Put the hook in the picture and in a large caption, because many people watch without sound.
- Length. TikTok recommends 21-34 seconds for ads.
- A story instead of a list of features. “Five minutes of coffee. Twenty-one days to make it” sticks better than “premium handmade ceramics”.
- Regular posting. Four decent reels a month beat one perfect video a quarter.
Since 2 August 2026, realistic AI videos shown in the EU also have to be clearly labelled. My guide Do you need to label AI images and videos in ads in the EU? explains when and how.
What a reel costs with me
A reel of up to 30 seconds with script, voice-over, music and captions costs from €199 / $219, usually ready in 5 working days. Four reels a month from €590 / $650, with no yearly contract. One round of changes is included, and you can use the videos in paid ads too. Every video is checked frame by frame before delivery and labelled as AI-generated. No VAT is charged.
