16/19 concept project

Klucz 13: car repairs and servicing · Warsaw

Drivers pick the service, their car, the day and the drop-off time, and see the “from” price on the board before they call.

Concept project - how I would build a website for a business in this field: car repairs and servicing. The business and its details are fictional.

01The challenge

People phone a garage in the middle of the day, while the mechanic is under a car. Customers do not know what they will pay and worry the bill will be twice as high after the repair. This is how I would build a site for an independent garage in Targówek, Warsaw: “from” prices in plain view, a “we call with a quote first” rule and drop-off booking without a phone call.

02What I did

  1. A job card instead of a phone call

Next to the headline hangs a card taped to the wall. Customers choose the service and the make, model and year of the car, then the drop-off day and time. Long repairs have fewer free slots, because the site works out how long they will keep the bays busy, and the garage takes no more than two cars in any hour. Two people cannot grab the last slot at the same time.

  2. Prices on a painted board

Seven services with “from” prices hang on a board on little chains, like in a real garage. Clicking a row sets that service in the booking card. Underneath is the rule: before we do anything extra, we call you with a quote.

  3. The drop-off dashboard

The garage has a dashboard with the week’s drop-offs: it can block an hour, cancel a visit and download a list for a spreadsheet. The dashboard code is on the site, so in the demo customer details are masked, registration number included.

  4. A preview of the confirmation

After booking, customers see a confirmation with the date, car, address and a link to cancel until 6 pm the day before. In a real deployment that message goes out by email; the demo only shows a preview. Spam is stopped by an invisible check and limits, and the demo data is wiped every night.

  5. A hand-painted sign

The line “We’ll check it before it breaks” appears with a single brush stroke, and a big spanner marked 13 turns once, as if tightening a nut. The background is concrete, yellow tape is the accent, and oil red appears only on the buttons. With reduced motion the page shows the final state straight away.

  6. Phones and honest labels

On phones the booking card sits right under the headline, and a sticky “Book a visit” and “Call” bar hides while the customer is typing in the form. The business is fictional, the number is all zeros, the reviews are marked as samples, and the photos are AI-generated and labelled that way.

03Result

A garage website where drivers check the “from” price and book a drop-off themselves, while the garage sees the week in its dashboard and takes fewer calls mid-repair. Speed 99/100 on mobile and 100 on desktop, accessibility 100, and nothing jumps while the page loads.

How customers find this website

  • The title says what and where: a car repair garage in Targówek with online drop-off booking.
  • Google knows it is a car repair garage and knows its services with “from” prices, address and hours, because they are written on the page in a way it reads directly.
  • The most common questions are set up so Google and AI assistants can quote the answers.
  • The demo is hidden from search engines, because the business is fictional.
