29/29 concept project
Honey: family apiary with hive adoption · Kashubia
Visitors pick their own hive on a photo of the apiary, see what 390 zł gets them, and adopt it without a phone call.
Concept project - how I would build a website for a business in this field: family apiary with hive adoption. The business and its details are fictional.

01The challenge
Hive adoption sounds like a donation, because visitors cannot see what they pay for.
- The hive is “somewhere in a field”
- No idea what 390 zł actually buys
- No sign of the people who run it
Full description of the challenge
For a family apiary, hive adoption means money before the season, but most sites make it sound like a donation: the hive is somewhere in a field and the visitor has no idea what they will get. This is how I would build a site for an apiary on Lake Raduń: a specific hive with a number, a spot and a colony, then a simple adoption.
02What I did 6 decisions
-
A map of 12 hives on a photo of the apiary
Twelve numbered hives on the apiary photo, with filters by spot and colony age.
More details
On the aerial photo every hive has its number: yellow means free, pale means adopted. Filters narrow the choice by spot (under the lindens, by the lake, by the orchard) and by the age of the colony, and the chosen hive lights up.
-
The hive card leads straight to adoption
The hive card opens the form with that hive chosen and four adoption steps.
More details
The card says who the hive suits, where it stands and what it costs. The “Adopt hive no. 7” button opens the form with that hive already chosen, next to four steps that show what happens after you sign up.
-
Honey with a basket in the header
The jar flies into the header basket, and the order adds the courier fee.
More details
Four honeys with their harvest month and taste. “Add to order” sends the jar to the basket in the header, and the order adds the courier fee and ends with a summary.
-
On phones the photo slides under your finger
On phones the photo slides sideways, with a carousel of cards below.
-
Gifts for companies and the people behind the apiary
A page for companies with packages, and the beekeepers who write the diary.
-
Motion that fits honey
Bees follow the cursor and the honeycomb fills as you scroll.
Details of decisions 04-06
04 On phones the photo slides under your finger
On a small screen the numbers do not overlap, because the photo is wider and scrolls sideways. Below it there is a carousel of cards, and a filter scrolls straight to the matching hives.
05 Gifts for companies and the people behind the apiary
A separate page for companies has three packages, deadlines and invoices. The apiary page introduces Marta and Piotr, fictional beekeepers who write the diary and answer messages.
06 Motion that fits honey
The bees on the first screen follow the cursor and soon fly back to their hives. Honeycomb cells fill with honey as you scroll, and with animations turned off the page shows the final state straight away.
03Result
Visitors choose a specific hive and adopt it in a few minutes, with no phone call.
Full description of the result
Visitors choose a specific hive and know what 390 zł gets them before they write. Speed 98/100 on mobile and 100/100 on desktop, accessibility 100, and nothing jumps while the page loads.

How customers find this website
- Google knows it is a family apiary in Kashubia, with the prices of adoption and honey.
- The questions before adoption are prepared so that Google and AI assistants can quote the answers.
- The demo is hidden from search engines because the business is fictional.
